Sukuna won. In chapter 236 his world-cutting slash cuts Gojo in half, one chapter after the story shows Gojo apparently winning. Kashimo takes over the fight immediately and dies the same way.
Gojo vs Sukuna is the duel between Satoru Gojo and Ryomen Sukuna in chapters 223 to 236 of the *Jujutsu Kaisen* manga, fought on 24 December 2018 and won by Sukuna. It is the turning point of the whole Jujutsu Kaisen story, and the argument about it has outlived the manga.
Spoiler line: this post spoils the Shinjuku Showdown, chapters 221 to 268, in most detail chapters 223 to 236, and mentions *Modulo*. All of it is manga only. The anime stopped around chapter 181 and Season 4 has no date.
Pick your path: the result, the chapters, the domain clash, who is stronger or Yuji and Yuta.
YourCrush.AI has Gojo Satoru as a chat character, so once you have read this you can talk to Gojo Satoru yourself.
Who won Gojo vs Sukuna?
Sukuna won. He kills Gojo in chapter 236 with a slash that cuts space itself, after a fight in which Gojo looked like the winner as late as chapter 235.
The fight is the centre of the Shinjuku Showdown, and it starts with a question put to Gojo the moment he is free.
Spoiler: Gojo's answer when asked if he'd lose to Sukuna
Gojo walks out of the Prison Realm in chapter 221, freed by Angel's Jacob's Ladder after about 19 days of story time. Asked whether he would lose to Sukuna, he says "Nah, I'd win", in VIZ's revised translation, a callback to chapter 3 that became a meme across the internet. They agree to fight on 24 December.
Our imagining of Gojo the night before, saying out loud the one thing he is unsure of:
"I know I'm stronger. What I don't know is what he's been doing while I was in a box."
What he has been doing is preparing. Sukuna walks in with 19 of his 20 fingers and Megumi Fushiguro's body, which he took in chapter 212 for the Ten Shadows.
Spoiler: how Sukuna gets past Infinity
Gojo's Infinity means a blow never reaches him, because it hits infinity itself. Sukuna stops trying to land a blow. He makes a binding vow to use the World Cutting Slash, which cuts space itself, and the vow costs him for good: afterwards he needs hand signs, chants and manual aim to use it. The slash cuts Gojo in half, off-panel, in chapter 236.
How that chapter plays out, and what Gojo sees afterwards, is told in how Gojo died.
How YourCrush.AI lets you settle a who-is-stronger argument inside your own story
Power-scaling arguments never end because canon gives each side something. A story can give you a referee, and a rival who argues back.
YourCrush.AI builds an original character from a name, a description, a backstory, a greeting and three to seven traits, with no code. YourCrush.AI holds the terms of the argument in pinned memories, so the rules you set in the first message are still the rules an hour later. YourCrush.AI branches a scene, so you can play the rematch both ways and compare. It is free to join and 18+ only.
Here is an original adult character to build at the create-character page, in the natural behaviour mode:
- Name: Makoto Sakaki
- Behaviour mode: natural
- Category: Anime
- Description: Makoto is 35, a retired sparring champion who never lost a sanctioned bout and keeps a battered notebook ranking every fighter who ever made him work. He is loud, funny and unable to leave a "who would win" question alone, and he respects you most when you disagree with him and can say why.
- Backstory: You were the referee at his last match, the one he insists he won on a technicality he still disputes. He has tracked you down to settle the argument once and for all, and he has brought the notebook.
- Greeting: "Ref! Perfect. You're the only neutral party left in this city. Page 41 of my notebook, two names, one question: who's stronger. I say the one who lost was the better fighter and the winner just prepared harder. You're going to tell me I'm wrong, and I'm going to enjoy it."
- Traits: Confident, Arrogant, Playful, Intelligent, Impulsive
- Speaking style: cocky, quick, analytical, loud
What chapters is Gojo vs Sukuna in the manga?
Gojo vs Sukuna runs from chapter 223 to chapter 236, set on the date the two agree to after Gojo's release: 24 December 2018. Chapter 236, the one where Gojo dies, came out on 24 September 2023.
The chapter range and release date come from CBR and ComicBook.com. In print it spans two volumes: chapters 223 to 227 sit in volume 25, Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, and chapters 228 to 236 in volume 26, Heading South, per Wikipedia's chapter list.
What happened in the domain clash?
Both fighters expand their domains at the same time, and Malevolent Shrine, which has no barrier, attacks Gojo's Unlimited Void from outside. According to a press timeline of the fight, the clashes run over several chapters and end with both domains collapsing after about three minutes.
Spoiler: who wins the domain clash
Chapter 225. Gojo's Unlimited Void floods its target with infinite information and leaves them unable to act. Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine works differently: it draws no barrier, so it reaches past the edge of Gojo's domain and cuts at it from the outside. The Sportskeeda timeline runs the clashes through chapters 226 to 228 and ends them with both domains collapsing after about three minutes. Nobody wins the clash outright; it decides how the rest of the fight is fought.

Is Gojo stronger than Sukuna?
Canon's answer is that Sukuna won, but only with Megumi's Ten Shadows, Mahoraga's adaptation to Infinity as a model, and a binding vow that bought a slash through space at a lasting cost. Whether that makes Sukuna "stronger" is opinion, and each side of the gojo vs sukuna argument points to something real.
Here is the part the Gojo side points to.
Spoiler: the chapter where Gojo seems to have won
Sukuna summons Mahoraga, the strongest Ten Shadows shikigami, which adapts to whatever attacks it. The press timeline says Mahoraga adapts first to Unlimited Void and later to Infinity, and Sukuna uses its adaptation as a "model" for his own technique. Gojo keeps winning anyway. By chapter 235, he appears to have won.
Our imagining of Sukuna on the vow he paid, in his own voice:
"A price is only a price to someone who means to stop. I did not mean to stop."
This part is our reading. The Sukuna side says a win is a win: he read Gojo's one defence, built an answer to it, and paid for it. The Gojo side says Sukuna needed another person's technique, a shikigami that learns, and a permanent handicap to close a fight Gojo was winning on his own. Both are true, which is why the question never settles. What canon does show is how each one walked in: Sukuna prepared for one opponent, and Gojo prepared for nobody, because he never had to. In the airport afterwards, Gojo's regret is that he did not get to know Sukuna better.
Is Yuta stronger than Gojo?
Canon never pits them against each other. The closest it comes is Yuta using Gojo's own body, with Limitless, the Six Eyes and Hollow Purple, for five minutes in chapter 261. Borrowing Gojo's techniques for five minutes is not the same as outmatching him, so any ranking is opinion.
Yuta copied Kenjaku's brain-transplant technique through Rika and moved into Gojo's stitched-up body, with Gojo's agreement given beforehand, and the copy lasts only while Rika is fully manifested. Earlier in the arc he does something Gojo never managed: he beheads Kenjaku in chapter 243. Yuta is 17 in the story.
Is Yuji stronger than Gojo?
Canon never puts them in a fight against each other, but Yuji is the one who finally beats Sukuna, in chapters 267 and 268, with help. Gojo lost to Sukuna alone. Yuji won with a team, so the comparison is not like for like.
Yuji's Black Flash drives Sukuna out of Megumi's body in chapter 267, after Nobara's Resonance on Sukuna's last finger, the one Gojo hid, has struck Sukuna's soul. In the *Modulo* follow-up, set sixty-eight years later, Yuji is considered humanity's strongest jujutsu sorcerer, and his whereabouts are unknown. That is a statement about 2086, not about the boy of 15 who fights in Shinjuku.
Who else fought Sukuna after Gojo?
Kashimo goes first, then Higuruma, Yuji, Maki, Choso, Yuta in Gojo's body, Nobara, and Megumi from inside his own body. Kashimo and Choso die. Yuji's Black Flash finally drives Sukuna out of Megumi in chapter 267, and Sukuna disintegrates in 268.
Spoiler: who fights Sukuna after Gojo
Hajime Kashimo, a sorcerer reincarnated from 400 years ago, steps in the moment Gojo falls. He spends his one-time technique, Mythical Beast Amber, and dies to the same net of Dismantle slashes; chapter 238 confirms his death. At the end of chapter 237 Sukuna takes his true Heian form, with two faces and four arms. Gojo never faced that form.

After Kashimo comes everyone else. Higuruma fights beside Yuji and is cut down in chapter 247, then healed by Shoko. Maki drives the Split Soul Katana through Sukuna's heart in chapter 251. Choso burns shielding Yuji from Divine Flame in chapter 259. Yuta fights in Gojo's body, Megumi trips Sukuna from inside in chapter 266, and Nobara returns in chapter 267. Yuji finally beats him in chapter 268, and the whole of that last fight is in how Sukuna died.
