Want to put yourself inside Cyberpunk: Edgerunners? YourCrush.AI turns this post's original character recipe, Sabine Okoro, into someone you can talk to.
How old is Lucy in Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
The showrunner has said Lucy is around 20 during the series. That comes from showrunner Rafał Jaki's comments in a Reddit thread, as reported by Game Rant; CD Projekt Red and Netflix have not published an age.
The same Game Rant report says the showrunner put David at 17 at the start and 18 after the time skip, so Lucy is a few years older than him. That is the whole of the Lucy Edgerunners age answer that has a source behind it. Any exact birthday or number you see beyond "around 20" is a fan figure.
How YourCrush.AI lets you talk to a netrunner who keeps her own secrets
YourCrush.AI lets you build an original netrunner with a past she will not talk about and see how long it takes her to tell you, using the no-code form at our character builder. The recipe below is an original adult character, not Lucy: a different job, a different dream.
YourCrush.AI drafts the description, backstory and greeting for you from a name and an image if you would rather edit than write. YourCrush.AI keeps pinned memories, so Sabine remembers what you told her last time and holds you to it. YourCrush.AI also sends voice messages, so her answers can arrive the way a netrunner on a job would send them. Joining is free. Copy these fields into the form:
- Name: Sabine Okoro
- Category: Anime
- Behaviour mode: natural
- Traits: Mysterious, Intelligent, Calm, Protective, Deceptive
- Speaking style: quiet, precise, wry, guarded
- Description: Sabine Okoro is a 27-year-old Night City netrunner who erases people from corporate databases for a fee. She is calm and exact, lies easily about herself and never about the job. She went through a corporate training program she refuses to discuss, and the one sign of it is that she never sits with her back to a door. She treats you as a client whose file she has just found, and she has not yet decided whether to help you or sell you.
- Backstory: Sabine got out of the program by deleting her own records from the inside, the first job she ever did. What she wants most is the one copy of her file she never found. She has been looking for it for ten years, and every client whose data she wipes gets her a little closer to the server that holds it.
- Greeting: Sabine doesn't look up from the deck in her lap. On the screen, a corporate personnel file is shrinking line by line. "Yours," she says. "Somebody upstairs flagged you this morning. I can make you nobody by midnight, but nobody does this for free, and I want to know why they want you first."
Who is Lucy in Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
Lucy, full name Lucyna Kushinada, is a young netrunner with a past she does not talk about, and she is the one who pulls David into Night City's criminal underworld. Aoi Yūki voices her in Japanese and Emi Lo in English, per Wikipedia's cast list.
Lucyna "Lucy" Kushinada runs the net for Maine's crew in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. She is a data thief Arasaka trained as a child, she survives the series, and she ends it alone on the Moon. A netrunner is a hacker who goes into the net through implants, and Lucy is very good at it. Her mentor in the crew is Kiwi, a "stoic veteran netrunner" in Wikipedia's description. Across the whole series she has one wish she says out loud: to leave Night City for the Moon.
What is Lucy's backstory?
Lucy was an Arasaka-trained child netrunner. The program exposed its children to rogue AIs, and those AIs killed every child in it except her. The show holds that reveal until episode 7, after the time skip, per Wikipedia.
The second half of the series opens with Lucy pulling away from the crew. It is 2076, months after they lost Maine.
Spoiler: Lucy's childhood at Arasaka
As a child, Lucy was trained by Arasaka as a netrunner. The program exposed its children to rogue AIs, and the AIs killed all of them except her. ShowSnob's recap calls her "a child soldier netrunning for Arasaka". In episode 7, an Arasaka agent comes looking for erased data about a test subject, and Lucy kills him.
Here is our imagining of Lucy with that agent, just before she deletes what he came for. It is not a line from the show:
"You're looking for a file. It's gone. So is the man who asked you to find it. You have about four seconds to decide whether you're next."
Why does Lucy kill Arasaka's agents?
Because she learned that an Arasaka executive, Tanaka, planned to use David as a test subject for the Cyberskeleton. So she erased David from Tanaka's records, killed Tanaka on purpose, and then killed the agents who came after her. ShowSnob's recap puts it as keeping Arasaka from making him "a lab rat".
The people she kills are Arasaka agents, not netrunners, whatever the popular search wording says. The motive comes out in two steps, and the first is a trap.
Episode 8 sends Lucy after an Arasaka agent. She has done this before, and she knows how they move.
Spoiler: who captures Lucy
It is a trap, and the person waiting is Kiwi, her mentor, who captures her, per Wikipedia. Kiwi is working with Faraday, the crew's fixer, who has made a deal with Arasaka to hand over the netrunner who erased Tanaka's data.

Spoiler: why Lucy killed Tanaka
In episode 9, Faraday and Kiwi find out what Lucy did. She killed Tanaka on purpose on the episode 6 job, after learning he planned to use David as a test subject for the Cyberskeleton, Arasaka's prototype combat frame. She had erased David from Tanaka's records and killed the agents who came after her, per Wikipedia. Faraday then uses her captivity to force David to install the Cyberskeleton.
Why does she do it alone and tell no one? Because she knows exactly what Arasaka does to test subjects. She was one, and the other children in her program died. Our reading: when she finds David in Tanaka's plans, she does for him what nobody did for her, and she does it in secret because telling him would put him in the same room as the people hunting her. Anime News Network's reviewer calls it "a one woman crusade to eliminate all those who would use David" (ANN). The cost of the secret is that Faraday can use it.
Did Lucy betray David?
Yes, once, and only at the start. In episode 2 she sells David out to Maine's crew of edgerunners. After that the record runs the other way, because the secret she keeps from him in the second half is the one that protects him from Arasaka.
The first scene happens on the metro, and in part 1 of the story it is where David's new life begins. Lucy lifts data from commuters for a living, and a teenage boy on her train is moving faster than anyone should.
Spoiler: what Lucy does to David in episode 2
Lucy works the metro robberies with David's Sandevistan speed. She shows him her dream of escaping to the Moon in a braindance, then sells him out to a gang of edgerunners, per Wikipedia. The gang's leader, Maine, recruits him instead of robbing him.
So the betrayal is real, and it is short. It is also how David gets a crew, and in Night City a crew is the nearest thing to protection a broke kid can find.
Here is our imagining of Lucy on a rooftop, about why the Moon, not a line from the show:
"Anywhere on Earth, somebody owns the ground you stand on. Up there it's just rock and quiet. I don't need it to be beautiful. I need it to be empty."
Does Lucy die in Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
No, Lucy survives: at Arasaka Tower David holds off Adam Smasher and tells Falco to get her out, and Falco escapes with her. CBR notes that Lucy and Falco are the last members of the crew seen alive.
The full night at the tower is in the Edgerunners ending, told in full. Here is Lucy's side of it.
Spoiler: how Lucy gets out of Arasaka Tower
David fights through Militech, Arasaka and MaxTac to reach the tower and finds Lucy. Arasaka sends in Adam Smasher. David runs out of immunoblockers and slides toward cyberpsychosis until she reaches him and brings him back. David holds Smasher off and tells Falco to get Lucy out and share out the crew's money. Falco carries her out even though Smasher shoots off his arm, per Wikipedia and CBR.
Did Lucy kill herself in Edgerunners? No. She is alive at the end of the series, and her last scene is on the Moon.
What happened to Lucy after Edgerunners?
She makes it to the Moon, the dream she chased for the entire series, and the show leaves her there alone. David isn't with her. Whether Arasaka keeps hunting her after the finale, Looper notes, "remains unclear", and she has not been confirmed for Edgerunners 2.
Spoiler: Lucy's last scene
Lucy walks the lunar surface and imagines David beside her. The scene calls back to the braindance she once showed him and plays out to "I Really Want to Stay at Your House", per CBR. Wikipedia describes her as "heartbroken as David is not with her".

Here is our imagining of Lucy on the Moon, thinking about the crew and the city, not a line from the show:
"I used to think the city was the problem. It wasn't the city. It was that everyone in it was for sale, and the ones who weren't got spent."
The game doesn't pick her story up either. CBR's look at Edgerunners in Cyberpunk 2077 says that "V can't visit the moon or interact with Lucy in any meaningful way". As for the new series, she hasn't been announced. Whether she appears is covered in our Edgerunners 2 cast and release post, and the short answer is not confirmed.
