Joyland AI: what its library, memory tiers, age rule and prices actually are

Joyland is a character chat platform with a three-tier memory system, a 13-plus rule on paper and an 18-plus rating in the store, and two prices for every plan. Here is what its own documents say.

Joyland AI: what its library, memory tiers, age rule and prices actually are

Searches for Joyland fell 55% over the past year to about 74,000 a month. The reason isn't written down anywhere Joyland publishes. What is written down: a character library sorted by chat count, a memory system sold in three tiers with no numbers attached, an age rule that says 13 in the terms and 18+ in the App Store, and a membership page where every plan has a listed price and an "early bird" price that has been the price since at least February 2025.

Everything below comes from Joyland's own website, terms of service, privacy policy, help center, Google Play and App Store listings, and archived copies of its membership page, each opened on 18 September 2026. My opinion, which you can argue with by the end: the early-bird number is the real price, and the crossed-out one is a prop.

YourCrush.AI prints one price list, one age rule and a memory count on every plan, which is the yardstick this review holds Joyland against.

What is Joyland, and who makes it?

Joyland is a character chat platform that runs on the web and as iOS and Android apps. A language model plays user-created characters, called bots, over text, and the business sits on a subscription plus a credit currency sold on top. The company behind it is MINDZEN PTE. LTD. of Singapore, named as the operator in the terms of service (last updated 14 May 2025) and as the developer on Google Play. That listing, "Joyland:Chat with AI Character," shows 2.4 stars across 1.31K reviews, 100K+ downloads, a Mature 17+ rating with the descriptors "Sexual Themes" and "Users Interact, In-App Purchases," and an update date of 26 May 2026.

The iPhone app is a different company on paper. The App Store listing for "Joyland AI: Anime roleplays" names the seller as ELDORIA PTE. LTD., carries the line "© 2026 ELDORIA Inc," and shows 2.8 stars across 108 ratings with an 18+ age rating. Apple's lookup API gives its release date as 22 February 2024 and its bundle identifier as com.joyland.ai, the same as the Android package. The terms mention a right to "appoint qualified third-party distributors" and then name MINDZEN itself, so the two-company arrangement is visible in the documents without being explained by them. I will not build a story on it.

Why YourCrush.AI is the better choice than Joyland

YourCrush.AI publishes the numbers Joyland's memory page leaves out: a count of pinned memories, a token allowance, and one price per plan. The plans below are as listed on the pricing page on 17 September 2026.

PlanPriceChat tokens / monthPinned memoriesStory branchesImage creditsCharacters created
Free$0400K10153
Pro$9.99/mo5M5055050
Premium$19.99/moUnlimitedUnlimitedUnlimited200Unlimited
  • YourCrush.AI pins memories as a counted list, 10 on Free, 50 on Pro and unlimited on Premium, so "short-term" and "long-term" are replaced by a number you can see fill up and edit.
  • YourCrush.AI meters chat in tokens rather than daily credits: 400K a month on Free, 5M on Pro at $9.99, which is Joyland's Standard early-bird price with the memory count printed.
  • YourCrush.AI generates a character's description, backstory, greeting and 3 to 7 traits from a list of 32 from just a name and an image in the character creator, with a description field of up to 2,400 characters against Joyland's 100-word minimum, and lists the result in a community library with Human and Anime categories.
  • YourCrush.AI is 18+ only by rule, not 13 on paper and 18 in the store, and conversations are not sold to third parties.

The named limitation: YourCrush.AI's library is small next to a feed where single bots show 11.8 million chats, and 5 image credits a month on Free is a small allowance next to a Joyland Free account that is topped up with credits every day. What you get instead is a plan sheet with no crossed-out prices on it.

What is in Joyland's character library?

Joyland's library is a public feed of user-made bots ranked by chat count, and the counts are large. On 18 September 2026 the homepage showed a bot called "18+ RPG 2.0" at 11.8 million chats, "Your h0rny GF" at 3.6 million, and "Breeding Facility" at 3.3 million, with tag chips such as "Dominant," "Possessive," "Enemies to Lovers" and "AI Boyfriend" under each card. Alongside the bot feed the homepage lists a Novel section of AI-generated serials, a Story section of interactive text games, a Toolkit for image generation, and a leaderboard of creators. The anime label in the App Store name is a category, not the whole library. Most of the top cards on the day I looked were romance and adult-leaning scenarios with human characters.

Creating a bot is a form. The help center's creation guide lists name, gender and age, a short introduction, an avatar (uploaded or generated), one of 13 categories including Anime, Dating and OC, a character description of "at least 100 words," a scenario, a greeting, facts and knowledge, example dialogue, and a visibility setting of Private, Unlisted or Public. A separate guide covers importing a character from a JSON or PNG card. Chat runs on one of five models: the help center's model guide lists a Free model for "Casual Chat & Basic RP" and four paid ones (Roleplay, StoryStream, Lifelike, Vividtale) that it says have more capacity and memory than the Free model, without a context length for any of them.

Does Joyland remember conversations?

Joyland sells memory in three tiers and states none of them as a number. Its memory page says Free users get "context-based memory that works within your current conversation," Standard users get a "short-term memory model that remembers key details across multiple chat sessions," and Premium users get "long-term memory capabilities" that hold "preferences, shared stories, and relationship dynamics across weeks or months." You will not find a message count, a token window, or a number of stored facts on that page, on the membership page, or in the terms.

Two panels: a character card with a short thread of chat bubbles, then the same card the next day with the thread mostly faded
Short-term memory across sessions on the paid tiers; nothing is stated as a count.

The one part you can control is the memory function. The memory function guide describes two ways to save something: open the character's Memory section in the chat screen and type a "Customized" entry, or click the pin icon next to a message in the chat log. It gives no cap on entries and does not say which plans include it. The terms add a clause worth knowing before you rely on either: Joyland "may establish general practices and limits" on "the maximum period of time that data or other content will be retained," has "no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any data," and can change those limits "with or without notice."

What the free tier feels like is in the reviews. A Google Play review from 22 February 2024, marked helpful by 70 people, said that on Free "after about 15 messages, it forgets everything and starts its own story." One from 16 October 2024, marked helpful by 31, said the reviewer paid for "the 20 dollar subscription (twice!)" and the character "would forget things after 10 or so messages, and even some things after 2 messages." Two reviews are two reviews. The point is that Joyland publishes no figure to test them against, so the only test is your own: plant three facts in one chat, come back two days later, and count what survives.

How old do you have to be to use Joyland?

Thirteen, according to Joyland's own terms. Eighteen, according to the App Store rating. Nothing in between gets verified. The terms of service state that "if you are under 13 years old or if you are an EU citizen or resident under 16 years old, you are not authorized to register," and the privacy policy repeats those same two thresholds. Neither document describes an identity or age check, so the gate is a checkbox. The stores rate the same app two different ways: Google Play at Mature 17+ with "Sexual Themes," Apple at 18+ with "In-App Controls" noted and descriptors for "mature or suggestive themes" and "unrestricted web access."

The content rules sit inside the terms. They prohibit creating or depicting "minors or characters with an undefined age of 18 or older," including "aged-up" versions of characters who were minors in their source material, and ban "real images of individuals or AI-generated images that are too realistic." The terms also say Joyland "does not pre-screen content" and reserves "the right (but not the obligation)" to remove it, and the privacy policy says the company "may monitor what you write." That is the entire moderation description: a rule list, no pre-screening, monitoring at the company's discretion.

On data, the privacy policy says Joyland does "not and will not sell your Personal Information" and "may convert the collected dialogue text data into anonymous numbers and graphs" for "non-profit academic cooperation with certified third-party academic institutions." Google Play's data safety label, filled in by the developer, states "No data shared with third parties" and "No data collected." Apple's label lists email under data linked to you, and purchase history, photos, audio, search history and device ID under data not linked to you. The two store labels do not describe the same app.

Is Joyland free, and what do Standard and Premium cost?

Joyland is free to chat on a credit allowance, and the paid plans are Standard at $9.99 a month and Premium at $19.99 a month if you take the early-bird price, or $19.99 and $39.99 if you take the listed one. The help center's membership page, read on 18 September 2026, gives the Free plan "10 free credits daily," "limited dialogue model trials," up to 3 personas, and image messages and the bot gallery paid for with credits. Standard is "Monthly: $19.99 ($9.99 for early birds), Annual: $107.99," with 5,000 monthly credits, no ads, unlimited text conversations, short-term memory, up to 20 personas, and 20 image messages a day. Premium is "Monthly: $39.99 ($19.99 for early birds), Annual: $191.99," with unlimited credits, long-term memory, up to 50 personas, and unlimited image messages.

The early-bird prices have been the prices since at least February 2025; the crossed-out numbers never came.

The App Store settles which number you pay. Its in-app purchase list, read the same day, has two items: "standard" at $9.99 and "premium" at $19.99. The Wayback Machine's copy of the membership page from 10 February 2025 already priced Standard at "$9.99 per month for early birds" against an "original price" of $19.99, and Premium at $19.99 against $39.99. An introductory rate that has held for nineteen months and matches the only price in the App Store is the price. The same archived page shows what moved in the other direction: in February 2025 Standard included "100 / Day" free image messages and Premium was described as "unlimited short-term memory"; today Standard has 20 image messages a day and Premium's memory is "long-term." One allowance dropped by four fifths and one adjective changed, at the same price.

The terms use different names for the same ladder. They describe a "Free Use" program, "aimed at users who cannot afford any of our subscription-fee based programs," which the company "reserve[s] the right to deny" to anyone, and a "Pro" program that "gives full access to the Services"; neither Standard nor Premium appears in the terms. Billing is monthly or annual through "the payment partners through which you originally acquired the subscription," cancellation is only through the same store, a missed payment downgrades you to Free Use, and "refunds cannot be claimed for any partial-month or partial-annual subscription period." Upgrading from Standard to Premium mid-cycle charges only the difference against the remaining value, per the membership page.

Why did searches for Joyland fall?

Searches for Joyland dropped 55% over the year to about 74,000 a month, in our keyword data pulled on 17 September 2026. No primary document names a cause, so I'll give you the dated facts that surround the drop and let you weigh them. The iOS app shipped version 1.0 on 23 February 2024, version 1.1 on 30 October 2025 ("iOS 26 adaptation"), and version 2.0.0 on 20 August 2026. That's two updates in the thirty months since launch. In that same window the app has collected 108 US ratings, and 12 or fewer in each of the seven other storefronts I checked (UK 10, Canada 12, Australia 2, Singapore 3, Germany 3, India and Japan none). Google Play's rating sits at 2.4 across 1.31K reviews. The Android listing is the iOS description word for word, and its 26 May 2026 update notes mention performance and interface polish and nothing else.

The reviews record one specific change. An App Store review dated 25 June 2025 says the app began "avoiding any and all NSFW content when it comes to chatting or searching" and stopped showing the reviewer's own published bots, and asks the developer to "update your app." A later review dated 5 February 2026 calls the app "pretty good since its unfiltered." Set that against the homepage on 18 September 2026, where the top cards carry adult tags, and the likeliest reading is that the filter tightened for a period in 2025 and loosened again, and that the period cost the app part of its audience. That is inference from two reviews and one homepage. The developer has published nothing about it.

Two smaller queries went the other way. "Joyland ai chatbot" rose 243% over the year to about 1,000 searches a month, and "joylands ai," a misspelling, still draws 90,500, more than the correctly spelled brand. The audience has shrunk but not left, and a chunk of it is typing the name from memory.

Frequently asked questions

Is Joyland free?

Yes, on a credit allowance. The Free plan gives you 10 credits a day, limited access to the paid chat models and up to 3 personas. Standard and Premium remove ads and add memory, and cost $9.99 and $19.99 a month at the early-bird price that has held since at least February 2025.

Does Joyland remember conversations?

In three tiers with no numbers attached. Free remembers within the current conversation, Standard adds "short-term" memory across sessions, and Premium adds "long-term" memory. You can save specific facts yourself through the Memory section or by pinning a message. Joyland's terms reserve the right to limit or delete stored data without notice.

How old do you have to be to use Joyland?

Thirteen by the terms of service, 16 for EU residents, with no identity check described. Google Play rates the app Mature 17+ and Apple rates it 18+, and the terms prohibit any character depicted as a minor, including aged-up versions.

Is Joyland safe?

For an adult who keeps identifying details out of the chat, about as safe as any character app in the category. The privacy policy says personal information is not sold, dialogue may be anonymised for academic research, and the company may monitor what you write. Content is not pre-screened.

What is the difference between Joyland Standard and Premium?

Standard is $9.99 a month (listed $19.99) for 5,000 monthly credits, short-term memory, 20 personas and 20 image messages a day. Premium is $19.99 a month (listed $39.99) for unlimited credits, long-term memory, 50 personas and unlimited image messages. Upgrading mid-cycle charges only the difference.

What happened to Joyland?

Nothing the developer has announced. Searches fell 55% over the year to about 74,000 a month. The iOS app had one release between February 2024 and August 2026. A June 2025 review reports the app filtering adult content it previously allowed, and the membership page cut Standard's image allowance from 100 a day to 20 while keeping the same price.

Joyland's membership page has carried a crossed-out $19.99 next to a $9.99 "early bird" price since at least 10 February 2025, and the App Store has only ever sold the $9.99. Until one of those numbers changes, the discount is the list price with a line through a bigger one.
