Type the name into a search box and you land on two unrelated products plus an affiliate site wedged between you and both of them. The first is a mobile chatbot app from a New York company, Emerald Labs LLC, that wraps OpenAI's models for writing, email and summaries. It has no character mode at all. The second is an adult-only web platform at aichattings.com, run by an unnamed operator under Irish law, that sells character chat, image and video generation on one-time payments. As of 18 September 2026 the app is gone from both the App Store and Google Play. The web platform's two linked store apps are gone too, and the only thing still installable is nothing. Every claim below comes from the two products' own store listings, terms, privacy policies and price pages, opened on 17 and 18 September 2026, with the dead listings read from Wayback Machine captures.
My opinion, which you can argue with by the end: an app that has left both stores should be written about in the past tense, and a chat that never asked you to log in is also a chat you can never delete.
YourCrush.AI is built for character chat first, with pinned memories, branches and voice, which is what a general chatbot app like ChatUp bolts on as a mode.
What is ChatUp, and why are there two of them?
Two products use the name, and they have nothing in common beyond the word. ChatUp AI usually refers to a mobile app called "ChatUp AI - Chat Bot Assistant," built by Emerald Labs LLC, which runs on ChatGPT and GPT-4o for writing tasks. It also refers to a separate adult-only website at aichattings.com with character chat and image generation under the same brand.
The app's own terms of service, version 1.0 dated 5 November 2023, name the company as "Emerald Labs LLC, a New York limited liability company." They limit use to the countries OpenAI supports and to OpenAI's usage policies, and they describe the product as "the downloadable software in the nature of a mobile application... entitled 'ChatUp'." The Google Play listing gave the developer's address as 8820 Parsons Blvd, Jamaica, New York. The website's terms, last updated February 2025, never name a legal entity. They give [email protected] as the only contact and choose "the laws of the Republic of Ireland." Different company, different country, different lawyers.
A third site, chatupaiapp.com, is where a lot of searchers land. It looks like a review page, with "Fee" and "Membership" tabs, and its "Visit" button redirects to aichattings.com with a referral tag in the URL. The prices it quotes ($3.99 a week, $9.99 a month, $29.99 a year) match neither product's own pages, and its footer links to adult cam sites. It is an affiliate front, not a developer site, and nothing on it is cited here.
Why YourCrush.AI is the better choice than ChatUp for character chat
YourCrush.AI publishes every memory limit as a count rather than a context window, which is the specific thing the ChatUp website leaves out. The plans below are as listed on the pricing page on 17 September 2026.
| Plan | Price | Chat tokens / month | Pinned memories | Story branches | Characters created | Image credits / month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 400K | 10 | 1 | 3 | 5 |
| Pro | $9.99/mo | 5M | 50 | 5 | 50 | 50 |
| Premium | $19.99/mo | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | 200 |
- YourCrush.AI pins memories as a counted list you can read and edit, 10 on Free and 50 on Pro, so a fact the character must keep survives the end of the context window instead of scrolling out of a 4K buffer.
- YourCrush.AI branches a story into separate timelines, one on Free and five on Pro, which neither ChatUp product describes on any page.
- YourCrush.AI includes voice messages on every plan including Free, where the website's price table lists nothing spoken at any price.
- YourCrush.AI builds a character without code in the character creator from a name, an image, a description and backstory of up to 2,400 characters each, a greeting of up to 500, 3 to 7 traits from a list of 32 and a behavior mode, and can generate the description, backstory, greeting and traits from a name and an image, so a character has stated fields rather than a monthly creation count.
- YourCrush.AI restricts the platform to users 18 and over and states that conversations are not sold to third parties, which is the same age rule as the website with a named policy behind it.
The named limitation: YourCrush.AI has no video generation on its pricing page as of 17 September 2026, so a person who came to the website for image-to-video has nothing to compare here, and its Premium plan caps image credits at 200 a month while everything else on it is unlimited. It is also a subscription, monthly and cancellable, where the website charges once, and whether $9.99 a month beats $79.99 once depends on whether you are still chatting in month nine.
Is the ChatUp app still on the App Store or Google Play?
No. On 18 September 2026 the App Store listing id6449482466 returned 404 on the US, UK, India and Egypt storefronts, Apple's own lookup API returned zero results for that id, and the Google Play listing for package org.chatupai returned 404 on the US, UK and India storefronts. The developer's domain chatupai.org no longer resolves, and its dashboard subdomain fails the TLS handshake.
What the listings said while they existed is on record. The App Store page, as captured on 11 March 2026, showed 3.7 stars across 54 ratings, an age rating of 13+ for "Infrequent Mature or Suggestive Themes," the Productivity category, a 25.3 MB download, English only, and a last version of 2.1.2 dated 9 September 2025. The Google Play page, as captured on 20 April 2026, showed 4.4 stars across 421 reviews, 10K+ downloads, a content rating of Everyone, and a last update on 7 July 2025. So the last code shipped in September 2025 on iOS and July 2025 on Android, and by the following spring the ratings totals were 54 and 421. For a category where the leading apps count ratings in the hundreds of thousands, that is the footprint of a small utility, not a companion platform.
The website's own store links are dead as well. The aichattings.com homepage, read on 18 September 2026, links an iOS app at id6742131355 and an Android package com.chatup.ai; Apple's lookup API returns zero results for the first and Google Play returns 404 for the second. Whichever product you mean, there is no ChatUp app to install today. The web platform itself is live.
Is ChatUp free?
ChatUp AI is free to download, but the pricing splits into two systems that don't talk to each other. The app has two paid tiers. The website is free without an account and sells four one-time paid tiers. The two price lists have nothing in common. The app's captured App Store listing showed two in-app purchases: a weekly plan at $4.99 and a "Pro Yearly" plan at $39.99. Its description promised "unlimited access" to unnamed parts of the app. The terms say "all Fees and Taxes payable under this Agreement are non-refundable" and reserve the right to change fees at any time. Neither the listing nor the terms state how many free messages you got before the paywall.

The website's price page, rendered on 18 September 2026, lists four tiers and states "No recurring payments!" under all of them. Standard is $24.99 for 30 days (shown against a struck-through $29.9) with 15,000 messages a month, 15 character creations a month, 600 generation credits, and chat memory of 4K. Premium is $79.99 billed once for 365 days with 100,000 messages a month, 100 character creations, 9,000 credits and 8K memory. Deluxe is $149.99 once for a year with unlimited messages and creations, 60,000 credits and 16K memory. Ultimate is $199.99 once for a year with 150,000 credits, 32K memory and every chat model. The homepage FAQ says the free tier needs no login and has "no hidden charges," but no page states a free daily message or image count, so the free limit is whatever the product enforces on the day.
The refund policy is the most specific document on the site. Refunds are available within 3 days of purchase, and only if you have made no more than 10 chat, image or chat-photo generations and no more than 2 character creations or video generations in total. Requests take up to 7 business days. The same page says the Pro plan "is a one-time charge, no need to be unsubscribed," which is consistent with the price page and inconsistent with the terms, which say subscriptions "are subject to recurring payments, unless otherwise specified." Read the price page as the one that binds your card, because it is the one that names the amount.
Does ChatUp have an AI girlfriend mode?
The app does not. The website does, with an 18+ rule that nobody checks. The app's store description, identical on both stores, lists an AI writing assistant, an email generator, a grammar checker, text-to-image, a "Web Analyzer," YouTube transcription, document upload, voice-to-text and text-to-speech. The words character, companion, girlfriend and roleplay do not appear anywhere in it, in its terms, or in its privacy policy. Any page that describes the Emerald Labs app as a girlfriend app is describing the other product.
The website is the other product. Its homepage, read on 18 September 2026, opens with "18+ only. All content is AI-generated," advertises "200k+ Uncensored Characters," and says you can create your own characters and set their appearance, personality and behavior. The terms require users to be at least 18, state that the service contains adult-oriented content, and prohibit sexual content involving minors, non-consensual deepfakes, extreme violence and content that promotes illegal activity. What the terms do not describe is any age check. Entry is a self-declaration on a splash screen, and the site's selling point of "no login required" means there is no account against which an age could be verified. Common Sense Media, working with Stanford School of Medicine's Brainstorm Lab, rated social AI companions "unacceptable" for minors on 30 April 2025 and said developers must implement age assurance "beyond self-attestation." A splash screen is self-attestation with a nicer font.
One more thing the homepage says about itself. Its FAQ credits the character chat to "GPT-3, GPT-4, DALL·E3, Sora, Claude3" and two further names that are not products of any model vendor. Sora is a video model. Treat the list as marketing, and treat the chat model as unknown, because the price table's "Chat Model" row names each tier after itself.
Is ChatUp safe?
For the app, the two stores' own labels contradict each other, and the policy behind them says the company does not verify age. Apple's privacy label on the captured listing put Purchases, Identifiers and Usage Data under "Data Used to Track You," listed Advertising Data and Device ID as linked to your identity for third-party advertising, and put your photos, audio and "Other User Content" under data collected but not linked to you. Google's data safety section on the captured Play listing said "No data shared with third parties," "No data collected," "Data isn't encrypted" and "Data can't be deleted." Both are developer-declared, and they cannot both be true.
The privacy policy, version 1.0 dated 5 November 2023 and never revised, is closer to the Apple label. It says the company does not sell personal data "for marketing purposes," then says aggregated non-personal data "might be sold to other parties at our discretion," and lists sharing with service providers to "show advertisements to you" and "advertise on third party websites to you after you visited the Services." On age, the policy is blunt: users must be 13, users 13 to 18 need a parent's consent, and "We do not verify the age of our Users nor do we bear any liability in this regard." The terms add that the company "is under no obligation to provide you with a copy of Your Personal Data" if the service shuts down, which is now the operative clause.
For the website, the safety question is about what nobody can see. The terms say you retain ownership of what you generate and grant the operator a licence to use public content for "service improvements, safety filtering, and related purposes." The site's privacy pitch is that "you don't need to provide" personal data because there is no login. My opinion, stated once: that cuts both ways. A chat with no account attached is a chat with no deletion path, no export, and no way to prove which conversations were yours. The terms describe cancelling "through account settings," which presumes an account the homepage says you do not need. Assume every line is retained by an operator whose legal name you were never told.
What does the ChatUp character mode lack against a purpose-built companion?
Persistent memory, story branches, voice, and stated character fields. The website has none of the four, and the app never had a character mode at all. The four questions I put to every app in how to pick an AI companion app are whether memory is a number, whether the age rule is verified, what the data label says, and what a month of the memory tier costs. The website answers the first with a context window only: 4K on the $24.99 tier, 8K at $79.99, 16K at $149.99 and 32K at $199.99. A context window is how much of the current conversation the model can see at once. It is not persistent memory. Nothing on the price page or the terms describes a pinned fact, a stored profile, or anything the character carries into the next session, and "Chat Storage: ∞" describes a transcript archive, not recall.

Second, story branching is absent. No page on the site describes forking a scene or keeping two timelines, so a "what if" overwrites the thread. Third, voice is missing from the price table, which lists messages, images, videos and character creations and nothing spoken. Fourth, character creation is a count (15 a month on Standard, 100 on Premium) with no stated fields. The homepage promises appearance, personality and behavior controls, and the price page tells you how many you may make, and nothing in between tells you what a character consists of. Compare that with what a character creator needs from you, where the whole argument is that the fields decide whether the character holds together on day three.
The app lacks all of it because it never had a character mode. The closest it came to a persona was a text-to-speech "Listen" button.

Frequently asked questions
Is ChatUp still on the App Store?
No. On 18 September 2026 the listing id6449482466 returned 404 on four storefronts, and Apple's lookup API returned no result. The Google Play package org.chatupai returned 404 as well. The last captured versions were 2.1.2 (iOS, 9 September 2025) and a 7 July 2025 Android update.
Is ChatUp free?
The app was free, with a $4.99 weekly or $39.99 yearly subscription that its terms made non-refundable. The website is free without a login, and its one-time paid tiers run from $24.99 for 30 days to $199.99 for a year. The refund window closes after 10 generations or 3 days, whichever comes first.
Does ChatUp have an AI girlfriend?
Only the website does. The Emerald Labs app's store description lists writing, email, grammar, summarising and image tools, with no character mode. The website is an 18+ adult character platform, and its age rule is a self-declaration.
Is ChatUp safe?
The app's Apple label declared tracking through identifiers and advertising data, while its Play label declared no data collected. Its privacy policy says the company does not verify age. The website names no legal entity, sits under Irish law, and runs a no-login chat with no stated deletion path.
Who makes ChatUp?
The app is by Emerald Labs LLC, a New York limited liability company, at a Jamaica, New York address on its Play listing. The website's terms name no company at all, giving only an email address and a choice of Irish law.
What are the alternatives to ChatUp?
For a productivity chatbot, any first-party app from a model vendor does what the Emerald Labs app did. For character chat, compare Character.AI, PolyBuzz, Talkie, CrushOn.AI and YourCrush.AI on the four questions above, starting with whether memory is stated as a count.
The last version of the app shipped on 9 September 2025, and one year later there is nothing at either store address. Whatever a search result tells you about ChatUp, check the date on it. The product it describes may have been a Wayback capture for most of the time it has ranked.
