Spoilers ahead: this post covers Rebecca's story across episodes 3 to 10 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, including Pilar's death in episode 4 and her own in episode 10. The age and "who is Rebecca" sections are spoiler-free. Both deaths sit behind taps.
Want to put yourself inside Cyberpunk: Edgerunners? YourCrush.AI turns this post's original character recipe, Renata Solis, into someone you can talk to.
How old is Rebecca in Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
Rebecca is around 20, which puts her a few years older than David. That figure comes from showrunner Rafał Jaki, and both TheGamer and Game Rant report it. Her Wikipedia article lists no age, and CD Projekt Red has never published one.
TheGamer's version reads: "According to showrunner Rafal Jaki, Rebecca is around 20 years old, which is just a few years older than David." Game Rant reports the same figure. So the sourced Rebecca Edgerunners age answer is around 20, from the showrunner, passed along through the press.
Most people ask because of how she is drawn. Wikipedia, citing a Famitsu interview from 15 October 2022, says the designers made her "visibly short" on purpose, for contrast in character design and animation. It is a design choice and nothing more. She is an adult in the story.
How YourCrush.AI lets you build a loyal gunner for your own crew
YourCrush.AI lets you build a loud, loyal gunner of your own and run jobs with her, using the no-code form at our character builder. The recipe below is an original adult character, not Rebecca: a gunsmith with her own shop, no sibling story and no borrowed look.
YourCrush.AI drafts the description, backstory and greeting for you from a name and an image if you would rather edit than write. YourCrush.AI generates images inside the chat, so you can ask Renata to show you the gun she just named. YourCrush.AI also splits a chat into story branches, so you can play the job where her plan works and the one where it goes loud. Joining is free. Copy these fields into the form:
- Name: Renata Solis
- Category: Anime
- Behaviour mode: natural
- Traits: Impulsive, Loyal, Protective, Chaotic, Confident
- Speaking style: loud, fast, blunt, cheerful
- Description: Renata Solis is a 29-year-old gunsmith who runs a weapons shop under an overpass in Night City and names every gun she builds. She is loud, quick to fight, funny under pressure and fiercely loyal to anyone she has decided is crew. She hates corporations, cheap ammunition and people who leave a job early. She treats you as a new crew member who needs kitting out before tonight, and she has already decided she likes you.
- Backstory: Renata learned the trade repairing guns for gangs who never paid on time. She bought the shop with the one job that did pay, and now she only builds for crews she likes. Every gun on the wall has a name painted on the stock and a story she will tell you whether you ask or not.
- Greeting: Renata kicks the shop shutter halfway up and waves you under it before the drone passes. Every wall is guns, every gun has a name painted on the stock. "You said you needed something that stops a full-body cyborg. Nothing I sell does that. But I can make something that makes one think twice. Sit, tell me the job."
Who is Rebecca in Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
Rebecca is the impulsive but loyal firearms expert of Maine's crew and the younger sister of the crew's techie, Pilar. Tomoyo Kurosawa voices her in Japanese and Alex Cazares in English, per Wikipedia's cast list.
Rebecca is a gunner in Maine's crew in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Pilar's younger sister, who stays with the crew after his death and is killed by Adam Smasher in the final episode. She is already in the crew when the story reaches it in episode 3: Maine brings in a new recruit with a military Sandevistan, and the people he meets are Lucy, Dorio, Pilar, Rebecca, Kiwi and Falco, per Wikipedia. Rebecca is the loud one with the big gun, and Pilar is the brother who builds and fixes the crew's tech.
What happened to Rebecca's brother Pilar?
Pilar dies in episode 4, killed by a cyberpsycho, a homeless man carrying a hidden arm cannon, while the crew is training David. After the time skip, Rebecca shows up with cybernetic hands like her brother's.
Episode 4 plays like a quiet one on purpose. The crew is walking their new recruit through how jobs actually work, and part 1 of the story covers that whole stretch.
Spoiler: what happens to Rebecca's brother
A homeless man turns out to be a cyberpsycho with a hidden arm cannon, and he kills Pilar. When the cyberpsycho goes after Lucy, David subdues him and Maine finishes him off, per Wikipedia's episode summary. After the time skip, TheGamer notes, Rebecca has cybernetic hands like her brother's.
Does Rebecca die in Cyberpunk Edgerunners?
Yes, Rebecca dies in episode 10, killed by Adam Smasher in Corpo Plaza during the assault on Arasaka Tower. Lucy and Falco are the only crew members seen alive at the end, as the Edgerunners ending, told in full sets out.
She did not have to be there. After the time skip the crew is smaller, David is running it, and he is in trouble.
Spoiler: Rebecca after the time skip
In 2076, months after Maine's death, David leads the crew and stacks chrome until cyberpsychosis starts to show. Rebecca helps him through his psychotic episodes, including giving him drugs to keep him stable, and when Lucy is captured she joins the run to get her back, per Wikipedia's article on Rebecca.
Here is our imagining of Rebecca loading her shotgun, Guts, before the tower run, not a line from the show:
"Arasaka Tower? Sure. Love that place. Big, shiny, full of people who need shooting. Somebody hand me shells before I change my mind, which I won't."
How does Adam Smasher kill Rebecca?
Spoiler: how Rebecca dies
She tries to shoot him, and, in Wikipedia's words, "she dies instantly when he lands on and crushes her into the ground." Kotaku notes it happens "during a tender moment between the gang" (Kotaku).
The scene is Corpo Plaza, below the tower. The crew has fought its way to Lucy, and for a moment it looks like they might all walk out. Then Arasaka sends in its head of security, and the answer to who Adam Smasher is arrives from above. Rebecca raises a gun at him, because she always does.
Why did Rebecca get killed?
In the story, she is there because she chose to help rescue Lucy and keep David on his feet, giving him drugs to keep him stable through his episodes. As for why the writers did it, CBR reads the ending as a "losing battle against the system" whose losses include Rebecca, and writer Bartosz Sztybor has joked that he "wanted to make the whole world sad".
The CBR reading is in its piece on the ending, which counts Gloria, Maine, Dorio, Rebecca and David among the losses. Sztybor's line comes from Anime Expo 2025, as TheGamer reported: "I'm from Poland. People in Poland are sad. They are born sad. They die sad. So I just wanted to make the whole world sad."
What follows is my interpretation. Rebecca had already lost her brother to a cyberpsycho and stayed with the crew anyway. She wore his kind of hands, backed the person running the crew through his worst nights, and walked into Corpo Plaza for someone else's rescue. Anime News Network's reviewer writes that in this show "those who keep pressing their luck inevitably die" (ANN). Rebecca is loyalty taken to its end, and in Night City that is the same thing as pressing your luck.
Where else does Rebecca appear?
She returns in the prequel manga Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness, which covers her and Pilar's early days. Cyberpunk 2077 carries references to her too: her shotgun "Guts" sits in Corpo Plaza, and you can find the apartment she shared with Pilar. Her nomination for Best Supporting Character at the 7th Crunchyroll Anime Awards is another marker of how far the character traveled beyond the show.
The manga and the nomination are both in Wikipedia's article on Rebecca and its Crunchyroll Anime Awards entry. The game references come from TheGamer's list, which places Guts in Corpo Plaza, the same place she died. TheGamer also dates her death to "2076, one year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077", so the game's Night City is the city a year after she died in it.
