Moescape: anime art plus character chat, what Mochi buys, and where the Tavern stops

An anime-only creative platform run by Moe AI Limited of Kowloon, Hong Kong, where an image generator and a character chat called the Tavern share one prepaid currency named Mochi: that is the whole product in one line. New accounts get 100 Mochi plus 50 a day, subscriptions run from $9.99 to $39.99 a month, and the terms say everyone on it is over 18 while the Google Play listing rates it Teen. This page reads the pricing page, the docs, the terms, the content rules and both store listings, all opened on 18 September 2026, and answers what the Tavern is, what Mochi costs, how memory works, and whether it is safe.

My opinion, argued at the end: a currency that pays for both art and chat is a tax on whichever one you came for, and nothing on the site says which meter runs when you press send.

YourCrush.AI gives anime characters pinned memories, story branches and voice at $0, which is where this review measures Moescape.

What is Moescape, and who runs it?

Moescape is a web and mobile platform where users generate anime-style images, videos, voice and music with hosted models, then chat with user-made anime characters in a section called the Tavern. Both activities run on a shared credit called Mochi. The homepage title on 18 September 2026 reads "AI-enabled creative platform for anime fandom," and its navigation lists ten tools. The Tavern is one of them. The other nine generate images, video, music and voice.

The operator is named in the terms of service, last updated 26 August 2026, as "Moe AI Limited," at an office address in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong. The App Store listing shows the seller as MOESCAPE TECHNOLOGY CORP., with 4.6 stars across 1.6K ratings and a 16+ age rating, read the same day. Over on Google Play, the numbers differ: 4.3 stars across 9.7K reviews, 500K+ downloads, a Teen content rating, "Contains ads," and a last update of 7 September 2026.

Why YourCrush.AI is the better choice than Moescape for anime chat

YourCrush.AI is the fit for a reader who wants the anime character chat without the art platform attached, and who wants the memory limits printed. YourCrush.AI separates the two meters Moescape merges: chat is priced in tokens per month and images in a monthly credit count, so a heavy roleplay week never spends the image allowance. YourCrush.AI states memory as numbers on its pricing page: 10 pinned memories and 1 story branch on Free, 50 pinned memories and 5 branches on Pro, unlimited on Premium. YourCrush.AI keeps an Anime category in its explore library alongside a Human one, which is the overlap with the Tavern's Anime tag, and it generates a character's description, backstory, greeting and traits from a name and an image in the character creator, the same assisted path Moepilot takes. YourCrush.AI includes voice messages on every plan, is 18+ only, and does not sell conversations to third parties.

The plans as listed on 17 September 2026: Free at $0 with 400K chat tokens a month, 5 image credits, 3 active personas, 10 conversations, 3 characters created, 1 story branch and 10 pinned memories; Pro at $9.99 a month with 5M chat tokens, 50 image credits, 5 personas, 100 conversations, 50 characters, priority image generation, 5 story branches and 50 pinned memories; Premium at $19.99 a month with unlimited chat tokens, personas, conversations, characters, story branches and pinned memories, and 200 image credits. Pro at $9.99 sits at the Plus price with a chat allowance stated in tokens rather than a currency, and Premium at $19.99 is $10 under Moescape's Premium.

The limitation is the art. YourCrush.AI's image generation is in-chat only, 5 to 200 credits a month by plan, with no standalone generator, no video, no music, no model hub and no LoRA training; a reader who is here for the image tools loses all of that. YourCrush.AI is the better fit only if the character is the point and the pictures are the garnish.

What is the Tavern on Moescape, and what does it do?

The Tavern is the character chat: a library of user-created characters you talk to in a rolling conversation, with an asterisk convention for actions and a settings menu per chat. The platform's own Tavern guide describes it as the place to "Immerse yourself in conversations with your beloved AI companions," and says wrapping text in asterisks performs an action rather than saying a line.

On 18 September 2026 the Tavern front page listed 31 filter tags, among them Anime, Furry, Kuudere, Tsundere, Yandere, Vtubers and Original Characters. The top cards were scenario bots rather than single characters: "World RPG," "Storyteller," "My Hero Academia Roleplay," "Naruto RPG" and "Pokemon RPG." Franchise bots are allowed. Characters of real people are not, per the content rules below.

Building a character has two paths in the docs. You can fill the fields yourself, or you can use Moepilot, "an AI-assisted character creation tool that allows you to bring your characters to life with just a description input." It takes a description and an image, then drafts the rest for you to edit. The docs also list group chats, a user persona, a system prompt, a Lorebook and an in-chat image button with four triggers, including a portrait of the character and a picture drawn from the last message. In-chat images spend Mochi, and that is where the two halves of the product meet.

What is Mochi, and what does it cost?

Mochi is the site's single prepaid currency. You spend it on image generation, video, upscaling, ControlNet and, per the docs, chatting with characters. The platform's Mochi page calls it "the currency on the Moescape website," and lists the free allowance as 100 Mochi for a new account plus 50 a day that "will expire 24 hours after being claimed." The daily grant is use-it-or-lose-it. Only purchased and earned Mochi stick around.

Mochi is the meter: chat, art and everything else draw from the same balance.

The buy page, read 18 September 2026, sells one-time packs at 550 Mochi for $5, 1,300 for $10, 3,000 for $20, 8,000 for $50, 17,000 for $100 and 85,000 for $500. That works out to roughly $9.09 per 1,000 Mochi at the bottom and about $5.88 at the top. The App Store sells the same packs a cent under, 550 for $4.99 up to 17,000 for $99.99. A failed image generation does not deduct Mochi, per the buy page FAQ.

There is an earning side. The same page says a Tavern creator earns "20% commission on user messages after your public bot has reached 4,000 interactions in the last 90 days," and that earned Mochi is capped at 1,000 in any 30 days. At the cheapest pack price, that cap is worth about $9. The creator program is a tip jar, not an income.

What neither page prints is the number that matters most: how many Mochi one chat message costs, and which models cost any at all. The Pro tier lists "unlimited chats with select models," which implies chats on some models are metered, and the docs say Mochi is spent on chatting. Read together, they mean chat can draw down the same balance as art, at a rate the site does not publish.

Is Moescape free, and what do the subscriptions add?

Moescape is free to use inside the 50-a-day Mochi grant, with ads. Four subscriptions run from $9.99 to $39.99 a month, and each one adds a monthly Mochi allowance, removes ads, and from the second tier up opens unlimited chat on named models. The buy page on 18 September 2026 lists Plus at $9.99 a month with 1,400 Mochi a month, no ads, "better memory in chats" and 10% more credits on one-time purchases. Pro at $14.99 lists unlimited chats with DeepSeek V4 Flash, Ultra, Elune and Apollo 70B, 1,250 Mochi a month, 15% bonus credits and an output cap raised to 700 tokens per reply. Premium at $29.99 adds Athena, DeepSeek V3.2, DeepSeek R1 and Nephra 70B, 2,500 Mochi, 20% bonus credits and 900 output tokens. Platinum at $39.99 lists 6,250 Mochi and 1,000 output tokens. Annual billing cuts each by 25%, to $7.50, $11.25, $22.50 and $29.99 a month.

Two things stand out. Plus, the cheapest tier, lists 1,400 Mochi a month while Pro, the next tier up, lists 1,250, so the plan with unlimited chat carries a smaller art allowance. That is what the page printed on 18 September 2026, and I have no explanation for it. The output boost of 700, 900 and 1,000 tokens per reply, against an unspecified default, is the one memory-adjacent number the pricing page states. Longer replies are not more memory, and "better memory in chats" appears on all four tiers with no figure attached.

How does memory work on Moescape?

Memory on Moescape runs on three layers, and only two of them come with numbers. There's the model's context window, a Lorebook that injects entries by keyword, and a Memory Box of notes you write yourself. The context figures live on the platform's Tavern models page, which lists a "Token Limit" of 8,192 for Nephra 8B, Lunara 12B, Nephra 70B and Seth 70B, and 4,096 for Apollo 13B. At the rough rule of 750 words per 1,000 tokens, 8,192 tokens works out to about 6,000 words of character card plus conversation before the oldest turns fall out. The paid models on the pricing page (Athena, Ultra, Elune, the DeepSeek variants) have no token figure on that docs page at all.

Two panels: a small wooden memory box with a few slips inside, then the same box overflowing with slips spilling out
A memory box the docs describe but never size.

The Lorebook page is the most concrete memory document the site has. A Lorebook holds an unlimited number of entries, each tied to keywords, and only entries whose keywords appear in recent chat get inserted into the prompt, up to 4,096 characters, or about 1,025 tokens, at a time. A scan depth setting decides how many past messages are searched for those keywords. It doesn't remember what happened. It re-supplies what you wrote down when a trigger word shows up.

The Memory Box is a free-text field for "anything important they would like the character to remember," reached from the chat's menu, and the page says it "is currently available on web only." No count, no character limit, no statement of how it gets inserted. Put the three together and the honest description is this: about 8K tokens of rolling context on the documented models, a keyword-triggered Lorebook capped at 1,025 tokens per injection, and a notes field the app does not yet explain. "Better memory in chats" on the paid tiers is not defined against any of those three.

Is Moescape safe, and what do its age and content rules say?

On paper, Moescape is a moderated anime platform rather than an adult one. Its own terms set the floor at 18+, the App Store lists it at 16+, Google Play rates it Teen, and the content rules ban pornographic material in both chat and art. The terms of service, last updated 26 August 2026, state: "You represent that you are over the age of 18. The Company does not permit those under 18 to use the Service," and add that "all characters in your creative work are over the age of 18." Nothing in the document describes a verification step, so the gate is self-declared. That leaves the store ratings sitting two and three years below the terms: 16+ on the App Store, and Teen on Google Play under the label "Diverse Content: Discretion Advised."

The content rules, dated 9 September 2024, describe an AI moderator plus human reviewers that sort every artwork, character and model into PG or PG-13, with restricted and banned states above that. The rule covering both halves of the product is explicit: "Users are also blocked from generation and publishing of content that are considered obscene, vulgar and pornographic for both chatting and art." Banned outright are minors in any inappropriate context, non-consensual content, deepfakes of celebrities, and, for Tavern characters specifically, "Images of IRL people." A violating account is terminated and its data is "permanently unrecoverable." The platform's content-rating page adds that what a viewer sees depends on "the viewer's age and account information" and their content settings, and warns that rating names "may change."

On data, the App Store privacy label lists Identifiers under data used to track you. Google Play's data safety section says the app may share "App info and performance" with third parties, may collect personal info and app activity, and lets you request deletion. The terms grant the company a license to "use, modify, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce, and distribute" anything you post, while you keep ownership. They name no governing law and no arbitration venue, which is rarer than it should be.

Where does Moescape stop?

Moescape stops at refunds, at the app's memory tools, and at every price it declines to print. The refund policy, dated 9 September 2024, allows refunds "only under exceptional circumstances." It names service downtime and unauthorised payments as the two examples, then rules out "dissatisfaction with the service output, such as the quality of AI-generated images or the nature of AI chat responses" and "accidental purchases." You file a request through support within 7 days and wait up to 10 business days for a reply. A $500 pack of 85,000 Mochi is a commitment the moment you buy it.

The app trails the web. The Memory Box is web only, and the App Store sells the packs under its own prices. Voice sits in the navigation as a generation tool. Nothing in the Tavern docs I opened describes voice messages from a character, and I will not claim they exist or that they don't. Then there are the numbers nobody prints: Mochi per chat message, Mochi per in-chat image, the default output cap, the paid models' context windows, what "better memory" actually adds, and how large the Memory Box gets. Every one of those is a question a buyer would ask at the counter. Every one gets answered on the site with an adjective.

What are the Moescape alternatives, and how do you compare them?

The alternatives are the character chat platforms people already search alongside it: JanitorAI, Character.AI, PolyBuzz and Talkie. The fair comparison comes down to four questions, each answered from the platform's own pages. First, is chat metered separately from everything else, or does one currency pay for all of it? Second, is memory stated as numbers (context in tokens, pinned facts, branches) or as an adjective? Third, does the age rule in the terms match the store rating, and is it verified or self-declared? Fourth, what does the refund policy actually refund?

Moescape's answers: one currency for art and chat at an unpublished rate. 8,192 tokens on the documented models plus a 1,025-token Lorebook injection, with "better memory" left undefined. 18+ in the terms against 16+ and Teen on the stores, self-declared. Refunds for downtime and fraud only. JanitorAI's answers are in what Janitor AI provides, what a proxy is and what janitor+ costs, and the wider field in Character.AI alternatives compared on their own terms. The anime-specific difference is that the image side is the reason to be here. If you want the chat, the art is a second meter on the same balance.

Frequently asked questions

Is Moescape free?

Free within a daily grant. A new account gets 100 Mochi, plus 50 a day that expire 24 hours after you claim them, and ads run alongside. Subscriptions cost $9.99 to $39.99 a month, and one-time Mochi packs start at $5 for 550, per the buy page and docs read 18 September 2026.

What is Mochi on Moescape?

Mochi is the site's one prepaid currency, spent on image generation, video, upscaling, ControlNet and chatting with characters, per the platform's own Mochi page. Purchased and earned Mochi do not expire. The daily free grant does.

What is the Tavern on Moescape?

The Tavern is the character chat section: a library of user-made characters and scenario bots, filtered by 31 tags including Anime, Tsundere, Yandere and Vtubers. A Lorebook, a Memory Box, group chats and an in-chat image button are all documented in the platform's Tavern guide.

Does Moescape have memory?

Yes, in three parts. A context window of 8,192 tokens on the documented models (4,096 on Apollo 13B), a keyword-triggered Lorebook that injects up to 4,096 characters at a time, and a web-only Memory Box for notes. The "better memory" on paid tiers is not given a number.

Is Moescape 18 plus?

By its terms, yes. The terms of service updated 26 August 2026 say the company "does not permit those under 18 to use the Service." The App Store rates the app 16+ and Google Play rates it Teen, and no verification step is described.

Does Moescape allow NSFW?

No, by its content rules. Pornographic content is banned for "both chatting and art," content is rated PG or PG-13 with restricted and banned states above, and violating accounts are terminated. What a viewer can see also depends on their account's content settings.

The site prints the price of 85,000 Mochi and not the price of one message. Until the buy page says what a reply costs on each model, "unlimited chats" at $14.99 is the only chat price on it, and everything under that is a guess.
