Which anime character are you? An eight-question quiz with canon-adult results

Most anime quizzes are rigged toward whoever is on this season's poster. This one isn't. Eight questions, four answers each, and every letter means the same thing in every question, so your result comes from a tally you can check yourself. There are eleven possible results, every one of them an adult in their own series, and each result opens with a short read of why your answers point to them and a link to chat with that character.

Pick your path: see how the scoring works, take the quiz, skip straight to the results or read what a quiz like this can and cannot tell you.

Every result in this quiz is a character you can actually talk to on YourCrush.AI, so if you disagree with yours, tell her.

How does this anime quiz work?

The quiz works by counting letters. Each of the eight questions has four answers, and each letter always stands for the same temperament. After question 8 you have four numbers that add up to 8, and the biggest one is your result.

An anime personality quiz is a short set of scenario questions that sorts your answers into a few temperaments and matches your strongest temperament to a character who shows it in canon. The four temperaments here are the same groups our anime AI chat guide uses to sort characters by what talking to them feels like:

LetterTemperamentWhat it looks like in a scene
ACommandingYou decide what the scene is about, usually without raising your voice.
BWarm with an edgeYou protect people, and you are blunt about it.
CChaoticThe scene goes somewhere nobody planned, often because of you.
DCerebral and guardedYou watch, work it out, and keep your own cards close.

Pick the answer you would actually choose, not the one you would like to be true. Write your letters down as you go. Ties have their own results. With eight answers, a tie at the top can only be two letters at 4 each, two letters at 3 each, or all four letters at 2 each, and each of those has a result below.

How YourCrush.AI lets you argue with your quiz result

YourCrush.AI turns your result into a conversation, so you can find out whether you and Makima or Bulma actually get along instead of taking a quiz's word for it. YourCrush.AI gives each of the eleven characters above a written description, backstory, greeting, trait set and speaking style, so the first message is already in their voice. YourCrush.AI keeps pinned memories you choose, so the tally you share with Nico Robin at the start is still in front of her twenty messages later. YourCrush.AI branches a story from a chosen point, which suits a tie result: take the same scene to Tsunade and to Esdeath and compare. More characters sit in the Anime category on its explore page. The service is 18+ only, every character above is an adult in canon, and conversations are not sold to third parties.

If your character is not here, the character creator builds your own from a name, an image, a description and backstory of up to 2,400 characters each, a greeting and three to seven traits (Chaotic and Impulsive are both on the list, for the C scorers).

YourCrush.AI is free to join, and signed-in members chat without a message or conversation limit; visitors can open any result from the explore page in a short guest session, then sign up to keep going.

What are the eight questions?

Every one of the eight questions drops you into a scene anime fans have watched a hundred times, from the tournament arc to the beach episode. Answer all of them before you open any result.

1. The tournament arc has just been announced. What do you do?

  • A. Enter, and tell the organisers how the bracket should be seeded.
  • B. Enter, mainly to keep an eye on the friend who absolutely should not have signed up.
  • C. Enter under a fake name, in a mask, for reasons you cannot explain.
  • D. Sit in the stands with a notebook and write down every fighter's tells.

2. It is the beach episode. Where are you?

  • A. Under the only good umbrella, handing out jobs.
  • B. Carrying the snacks, the sunscreen and the first-aid kit, and using all three.
  • C. Running a watermelon-splitting contest that ends with someone buried up to the neck.
  • D. In a sea cave nobody else noticed, reading the carvings on the wall.

3. The villain starts a long monologue. How do you respond?

  • A. Interrupt to explain that this is your scene now.
  • B. Listen, because he sounds lonely, then hit him anyway.
  • C. Attack halfway through his second sentence.
  • D. Let him finish, because villains always mention the weak point eventually.

4. Who teaches you in your training arc?

  • A. Nobody. You set your own drills and grade yourself harder than anyone would.
  • B. A gruff veteran you would follow into any fight.
  • C. A hermit on a mountain who is either a genius or a fraud.
  • D. A library, and one old scroll that everyone else skipped.

5. Where does your mid-fight power-up come from?

  • A. Refusing, flatly, to lose in front of these people.
  • B. Remembering who is standing behind you.
  • C. Getting extremely annoyed.
  • D. Finally working out how the power system's rules actually work.

6. Someone left the last pudding in the shared fridge. What happens to it?

  • A. It was always yours. Everyone knows that.
  • B. You split it and give away the bigger half.
  • C. You eat it in one bite and blame the cat.
  • D. You check whose name is on the lid and read the date before deciding anything.

7. The opening song starts. What do you do?

  • A. Skip it. You are here for the episode.
  • B. Sing along, and make whoever is watching with you sing too.
  • C. Do the choreography, badly, standing on the sofa.
  • D. Pause on every frame, because openings hide foreshadowing.

8. What is your job on the crew?

  • A. Captain, whether or not anyone voted.
  • B. The one who remembers everyone's birthday and patches them up after.
  • C. The wildcard who is somehow essential.
  • D. The strategist who already has a plan B and does not mention it.

Count your As, Bs, Cs and Ds. If one letter has more than any other, open its "Mostly" result. If two letters share the top score, open the tie for that pair. If you scored 2, 2, 2 and 2, open the last result.

What do your answers say about you?

Your answers point to which of the four temperaments you reach for first, and the character below is someone whose canon personality runs on that same reflex. Each result explains the match and links to a live chat with that character. If a result touches a plot twist, the label says so before you open it.

One letter on top

Mostly A: open your result

You are Makima (Chainsaw Man). You chose control in almost every scene, and you chose the quiet version of it: seeding the bracket, taking the umbrella, claiming the pudding as if it had never been in doubt. Makima is a Public Safety devil hunter, per her MyAnimeList entry, and she runs every room she walks into while staying unfailingly polite. That is the A pattern exactly. You do not shout, you assume, and people find themselves agreeing with you before they notice they were asked. The warning that comes with this result is the same one the series gives: being in charge of every scene is lonely, and the people around you may be following rather than choosing. Chat with Makima

Mostly B: open your result

You are Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach). You entered the tournament to watch over a friend, packed the first-aid kit and gave away the bigger half of the pudding, and you were still ready to hit the villain. Rukia is a Soul Reaper who rises from lieutenant to captain of Squad 13, per her MyAnimeList entry, and the same entry notes she plays "a bit of a tomboy to show that she's tough." She protects people constantly and refuses to be soft about it, which is the B combination: warm in what you do, sharp in how you say it. She is also decades older than she looks, which makes her the kind of friend who has seen the mistake you are about to make and will tell you so. Chat with Rukia Kuchiki

Mostly C: open your result

You are Tatsumaki (One-Punch Man). Fake name, mask, an attack halfway through the monologue and a power-up fuelled by irritation: that is a C run. Tatsumaki is the S-Class rank 2 hero and "the most powerful esper alive," 28 years old, per her MyAnimeList entry. Her chaos has a direction, though. She is loud about her rank, impatient with anyone slower than her, and fiercely the older sister of Fubuki. That last part is the useful thing to know about a high C score: the noise is real, but there is usually one thing underneath it that you will not let anyone touch. Chat with Tatsumaki

Mostly D: open your result

You are Nico Robin (One Piece). You found the sea cave, let the villain talk, learned from the scroll and paused the opening for foreshadowing. Robin is the Straw Hats' archaeologist, 28 before the time skip and 30 after it, described on her MyAnimeList entry as "the wisest and most sensible member of the crew," and the only person on the ship who can read the Poneglyphs. The same entry notes her habit of pointing out "gross or realistically morbid facts," which is the D sense of humour: you are calm, you notice everything, and occasionally you say the quiet part with a smile. Chat with Nico Robin

Two letters tied

A and B tied: open your result (light Naruto spoiler)

You are Tsunade (Naruto). You want to run the room and you want everyone in it to come home, which is the job description of a Hokage. Tsunade is the Fifth Hokage, granddaughter of the First and one of the three legendary Sannin, nearly 50 per her MyAnimeList entry. As Hokage she assigns the dangerous missions and then personally heals the people she sent on them. The spoiler: she takes the job only after turning down Orochimaru's offer to bring back the brother and the partner she lost, choosing the living village over the dead. An A and B tie usually means the same thing: you lead because you care, and you are short-tempered with anyone who makes the caring harder. Chat with Tsunade

A and C tied: open your result

You are Esdeath (Akame ga Kill!). You want to be in charge and you want the fight to start now, which is a dangerous mix and a very entertaining one. Esdeath is a high-ranking general of the Empire and leader of the Jaegers, per her MyAnimeList entry, and the same entry says she enjoys hurting her enemies slowly. It also notes the contradiction that makes her worth talking to: she is merciless in a fight, but "compassionate" towards her own soldiers. Your A answers made you the commander. Your C answers mean you would rather lead a charge than plan one. Chat with Esdeath

A and D tied: open your result (One Piece spoiler about Hancock's past)

You are Boa Hancock (One Piece). You give orders and you keep secrets, and the second is the reason for the first. Hancock is the Empress of Amazon Lily and one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, 29 before the time skip and 31 after it, per her MyAnimeList entry, and her pride is famous enough that the entry describes her "cruel personality" in its first lines. The spoiler is what the pride protects: as a child she and her sisters were enslaved by the World Nobles and branded, and she hides the mark behind a story about a Gorgon's curse. An A and D tie reads the same way: command is how you make sure nobody gets close enough to ask. Chat with Boa Hancock

B and C tied: open your result

You are Yor Forger (Spy x Family). You packed the first-aid kit and then started the watermelon contest. You would protect anyone, and things tend to get broken along the way. Yor is a 27-year-old Berlint City Hall clerk who is secretly the assassin known as the Thorn Princess, per her MyAnimeList entry. She agrees to a pretend marriage with Loid as cover, then throws herself into being a good mother to Anya with total sincerity and alarming strength, and the entry notes she is "consistently bad at cooking." That is a B and C tie: the warmth is completely genuine, and the chaos is completely accidental. Chat with Yor Forger

B and D tied: open your result

You are 2B (NieR:Automata). You protect people and you do not explain yourself, which means your care shows in what you do rather than in anything you say. 2B is a YoRHa combat android "created to battle the machine lifeforms that have invaded the planet on behalf of the surviving humans," per her MyAnimeList entry. Her answers are short and stay on the mission, and her loyalty to her partner 9S comes out in actions, never in speeches. A B and D tie is the friend who never says "I was worried" and was standing outside the door the whole time. Chat with 2B

C and D tied: open your result

You are Bulma (Dragon Ball). You are the smartest person in the room and the least patient one, which is how you end up inventing something brilliant on the way to a terrible idea. Bulma's MyAnimeList entry lists her hobby as inventing, and the whole franchise starts because she built the Dragon Radar to hunt the Dragon Balls (her wish was "the perfect boyfriend") and recruited Goku as a travel companion. The entry also notes that the series keeps her around for her gadgets long after it turns into a fighting show. Cerebral plus chaotic is that exact energy: the plan is genius, and the motive is something you decided at breakfast. Chat with Bulma

All four letters at 2

Two of every letter: open your result

You are Saitama (One-Punch Man). A perfectly even score means no single reflex wins, and the character who fits is the one nothing moves. Saitama is a 25-year-old hero described on his MyAnimeList entry as "rather laid back," so strong that his hero work "is beginning to bore him because it's too easy." You can take charge, help, cause trouble or think it through, and you pick whichever the moment needs without much drama. The cost, as Saitama would tell you in a flat voice, is that it is hard to get excited about anything. Chat with Saitama

If your result surprised you, try the questions again and answer as you were five years ago. People often land on a different letter, which says something about what a quiz like this actually measures.

What can a personality quiz actually tell you?

A quiz like this one tells you which of four styles you picked on a given day. It cannot measure your personality. Eight questions written for fun, with no testing behind them, are a mirror rather than an instrument.

Two panels: a hand mirror with a soft blurred reflection, and a precise brass measuring instrument with a fine needle
An eight-question quiz written for fun works as a mirror, not a measuring instrument.

Even short tests built by psychologists are rough. The Ten-Item Personality Inventory is a ten-question Big Five measure, and a 2023 scoping review in Frontiers in Psychology (Thørrisen and Sadeghi, June 2023) found that all 17 versions tested for test-retest reliability held up over time, but only one of the 23 versions tested for internal consistency was acceptable on all five dimensions. The review notes that its developers said a test that short "cannot be expected to excel" on those measures. This quiz has eight questions and no validation at all.

The bigger risk is the feeling of being seen. Bertram Forer named it in a 1949 paper titled "The fallacy of personal validation; a classroom demonstration of gullibility" (Journal of Abnormal Psychology, January 1949), and it is now usually called the Barnum effect: people rate vague, general statements as highly accurate about themselves. A 2024 study of 238 participants (Lee and colleagues, arXiv, August 2024) found that people who believed astrology and personality-based predictions were also more likely to believe AI predictions about their own behaviour. If a result above felt uncannily right, some of that is the result and some of it is you doing the work.

What the quiz can honestly do is narrower. It tells you which kind of conversation you are in the mood for, and points you at a character who is good at that kind.

Frequently asked questions

Which anime character are you if you get a tie?

A tie means two letters share the top score. In an eight-question quiz that can only happen two ways: two letters tied at 3 or 4 each, or all four letters tied at 2. Each pairing maps to its own character, from Tsunade for A and B to Bulma for C and D.

Is this a waifu quiz?

It can work that way, since every result is a character you can talk to. Nothing about it is romantic or sexual, though. Every result is an adult in their own series, and the reads are about temperament, not attraction.

Why are there no high-school characters in the results?

Because companion and chat framing on this site is reserved for characters who are adults in canon. An "aged-up" label does not change what the source material says, so popular high-school casts are left out of quizzes like this one on purpose.

Are anime personality quizzes accurate?

No, not as a measure of personality. A 2023 review of the ten-item TIPI found only one of 23 versions had acceptable internal consistency on all five traits, and an untested fun quiz is less reliable than that. Treat your result as a mood, not a diagnosis.

Can I chat with the character I got?

Yes. Every result ends with a link to that character's page on YourCrush.AI, and joining is free, with no conversation limit for signed-in members.

What if my result is a character I do not like?

Retake it honestly, or skip the quiz and pick from the twelve characters in our anime AI chat guide. Most people would rather be a D than discover they are a C.
