Searches for "dragon ball super beerus" in the US jumped from 880 a month a year ago to 12,100 a month by September 2026 (DataForSEO keyword data, pulled 2 October 2026). Most of those searchers want to know one thing: is this a new story? It is not. Toei Animation's announcement calls it a remastered edition of the 2015 Dragon Ball Super TV anime, with new cuts, revised scenes, all footage re-rendered, newly recorded voices and a reconstructed story. It premieres in Japan on 11 October 2026, and the first episode screens three days earlier at New York Comic Con. The next new Dragon Ball story on TV is a different series, and it has no date yet.

What is the new Dragon Ball series?
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is a 2026 Toei Animation TV anime that remakes the opening arcs of the 2015 Dragon Ball Super series. Expect re-rendered footage, new and revised scenes, newly recorded voices, and a rebuilt story order. It starts with the arc where the God of Destruction Beerus wakes up and goes looking for Goku. Because it's a remake, anyone who watched the original run already knows how this ends.
Toei announced it on 25 January 2026 at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event, and the official premiere notice of 3 September 2026 credits Akira Toriyama for the original work, story and character design, Matsuto Seya for composition and direction, Tadayoshi Yamamuro for animation character design and Norihito Sumitomo for music. Kōichi Yamadera returns as Beerus in Japanese and Masako Nozawa as Goku, per the January announcement.
What it covers is narrower than the name suggests. Netflix's announcement, as reported by What's on Netflix on 1 October 2026, lists three arcs: Battle of Gods, Resurrection of F and Universe 6. In the original series those three arcs ran from episode 1 to episode 46 of 131. Toei has not announced an episode count for the remake, and because the story is being reconstructed rather than redrawn shot for shot, 46 is a ceiling on the old material, not a forecast.
The "dragon ball super new series" people are waiting for is a separate show. Anime News Network's report on the January event names Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, an adaptation of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc from Toyotarō's manga, which continues the story past the original anime's last arc. As of 2 October 2026, Toei had given it no release date.
How YourCrush.AI puts you at Bulma's party before Beerus crashes it
The part of the Beerus story people quote is not the fight, it is the party, and that party belongs to Bulma. On YourCrush.AI you can chat with Bulma, an adult in canon: the scientist who throws the party and the one person in the arc who slaps a god.
YourCrush.AI holds the facts a scene depends on (who is at the party, what Beerus has already eaten) as pinned memories, and signed-in members chat with no message or conversation limit; more of the cast sits in the explore library. YourCrush.AI branches a story, so you can play the party one way, then go back and play it the way where Vegeta keeps his temper. YourCrush.AI also lets you build a character with no code at /create-character, and Beerus, an ancient god, has no page of his own yet, so the build-your-own version below fits inside the form's limits.
- Name: Lord Beerus (homage)
- Behaviour mode: natural
- Description: A god of destruction who looks like a lean purple cat in gold jewellery and robes. Sleeps for decades at a time and wakes up hungry and short-tempered. Judges everyone by two things: how strong they are and what they put on the table. Never hurries.
- Backstory: You are the cook at a party on Earth. He arrived uninvited an hour ago, has tried everything on the buffet, and has not yet decided whether to destroy the planet.
- Greeting: "This pudding. Who made it? Answer carefully. I have not decided whether I like this planet yet."
- Traits: Arrogant, Impulsive, Curious, Cold-hearted, Playful
- Speaking style: lazy, imperious, blunt, hungry

When does it come out, and where can you watch it?
Episode 1 premieres Sunday 11 October 2026 at 11:15 p.m. JST on Fuji TV and its affiliates. That's 10:15 a.m. EDT the same day, in the slot the One Piece anime vacated on 27 September. US viewers get it on Netflix from 17 October, weekly.
| Where | When | Source |
|---|---|---|
| New York Comic Con, Empire Stage, Javits Center | Episode 1 world premiere, Thursday 8 October, 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. ET | Dragon Ball Official |
| Fuji TV and affiliates (Japan) | Sundays from 11 October, 11:15 p.m. JST | Anime News Network |
| Amazon Prime Video and U-NEXT (Japan) | 30 minutes after each broadcast | Anime News Network |
| Netflix, selected countries | Weekly from 14 October | Anime News Network |
| Netflix, United States | Weekly from 17 October | Anime News Network |
| Crunchyroll | Simulcast from 11 October reported; regions unconfirmed | What's on Netflix |
Two details were still open as of 2 October 2026. The first is the Crunchyroll region list. What's on Netflix reports that Netflix episodes land six days after the Japanese broadcast and Crunchyroll simulcast, but Crunchyroll had not published a territory list we could open. The second is the English dub date. The NYCC panel, per Cartoon Brew, is hosted by Monica Rial with Jason Douglas (Beerus) and Ian Sinclair (Whis). That lineup points to an English dub, but no platform has said when a dubbed episode goes up.
How does it relate to Battle of Gods and the original Dragon Ball Super?
This is the third telling of the same story. Battle of Gods was a 2013 film, the original Dragon Ball Super retold it as its first TV arc in 2015, and this series remakes that TV version.

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods opened in Japan on 30 March 2013. It was the first animated Dragon Ball film to get a theatrical release in 17 years, and Toriyama wrote the story and designed the characters himself. Two years later, the TV series opened by retelling that same story at TV pace. According to the Dragon Ball Super episode list, the God of Destruction Beerus arc ran from episode 1 to episode 18, between 5 July and 8 November 2015, and the Golden Frieza arc (the Resurrection 'F' film retold) ran from episode 19 to 27.
| Version | Year | Length | What it is |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods | 2013 | One film | The original story, written by Toriyama |
| Dragon Ball Super, God of Destruction Beerus arc | 2015 | Episodes 1 to 18 | The film retold for TV, with added material |
| The 2026 remake | 2026 | Not announced | A remake of the TV version, re-rendered and re-edited |
The gap between the 2015 arc and the film came down to pace: 18 episodes carrying the story of one film. The ANN report of 1 October quotes Toei's own description of "extensive new cuts" and "revisions to existing scenes", and that is the part to watch. Toei has not listed which scenes were cut, so any list you read before 11 October is a guess.
Spoiler: what the remake keeps from the 2015 version
Everything that matters to the plot. Toei calls the story reconstructed, not rewritten, and the official premiere notice describes the same spine: Beerus, the return of Frieza, and new threats closing in on Earth. If you saw the original, you know who wins every fight.
Who is Beerus?
Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7, the universe Goku lives in: where a Supreme Kai creates, Beerus destroys. He first appeared in Battle of Gods in 2013, and Wikipedia's entry records that Toriyama based his design partly on a Cornish Rex cat that lived with him while he was designing the character.
The official Dragon Ball character profile describes him as ill-tempered and food-loving, and the two things are related: a bad meal is enough to set him off. He is voiced by Kōichi Yamadera in Japanese and by Jason Douglas in the Funimation English dub. Everything else about him is plot, so it sits below.
Spoiler: why Beerus wakes up
He wakes from a sleep of 39 years after dreaming of a fight with a "Super Saiyan God", hears that a Saiyan beat Frieza, and goes looking for that Saiyan. Goku is the one he finds.
Spoiler: what Beerus has to do with Frieza and the Saiyans
Long before the series, Beerus humiliated both Frieza and King Vegeta, and the young Vegeta saw it happen. Vegeta knows exactly what Beerus can do before anyone else in the cast does.
Spoiler: what happens at Bulma's birthday party
Beerus turns up at Bulma's birthday party. When the fighting ruins it, Bulma scolds him and slaps him. He slaps her back, and Vegeta loses his temper and goes after a god he has been afraid of since childhood.
Spoiler: who wins, Goku or Beerus
Beerus does. Goku reaches the Super Saiyan God form through a ritual with five other Saiyans, holds his own, then runs out of strength and admits defeat. Beerus calls him the second-strongest opponent he has ever faced, then destroys only a small rock and leaves Earth alone, which technically keeps his promise.
Spoiler: who is stronger than Beerus
Whis, his attendant, who is also his martial arts teacher. The strongest fighter Beerus has ever faced is the attendant whose job includes waking him up on schedule.
Spoiler: the Universe 6 arc
Beerus has a twin brother, Champa, the God of Destruction of Universe 6. The Universe 6 arc, the last of the three the remake covers, is where the two brothers' rivalry plays out.
Where should a new viewer start?
Most new viewers should start with the remake itself, on 11 October or on Netflix from 17 October. It covers the first arc of Dragon Ball Super, and it needs no homework beyond knowing who Goku, Vegeta and Bulma are. Find the line below that fits you.
I have never watched any Dragon Ball: start here?
Yes, with one caveat. The remake assumes you know the cast are old friends who already beat Frieza and Majin Buu, and it will not explain that history at length. Watch episode 1. If the references lose you, Dragon Ball Z is the background, but it runs to hundreds of episodes, so treat it as a reference, not a prerequisite.
I watched Dragon Ball Z but never Dragon Ball Super: start here?
Yes. This is exactly the viewer the remake is for. It picks up years after the fight with Majin Buu, which is where Z left you, and it is the cleanest version of the Beerus story on TV.
I watched the original 2015 Dragon Ball Super: is the remake worth it?
Only for the craft. You know the plot, and Toei has not announced new story material. Watch episode 1 for the re-rendered fights and the new score, then decide by how much the cuts change the pace. If you want new story, you are waiting for The Galactic Patrol, and it has no date.
I saw the Battle of Gods film: do I need the TV version?
No, not for the plot. The film tells the same story in one sitting. The remake is worth it if you want to carry straight on into Resurrection of F and Universe 6 without switching formats.
Frequently asked questions
Is the new Dragon Ball Super series a new story or a remake?
It's a remake. Toei calls it a remastered edition of the 2015 Dragon Ball Super anime, with re-rendered footage, new and revised scenes, new voice recordings, and a reconstructed story. The plot is the one the original told.
When does the new Dragon Ball Super series come out?
It premieres on 11 October 2026 at 11:15 p.m. JST on Fuji TV, which is 10:15 a.m. EDT. Episode 1 screens first at New York Comic Con on 8 October, and Netflix streams it weekly in the US from 17 October.
Where can I watch it in the US?
On Netflix, weekly from 17 October 2026, roughly six days after each Japanese broadcast. A Crunchyroll simulcast from 11 October has been reported, but its regions were still unconfirmed on 2 October 2026.
Do I need to watch Battle of Gods first?
No. The remake retells the Battle of Gods story itself, so watching the 2013 film first just means sitting through the same plot twice.
How many episodes will it have?
Toei has not announced an episode count. The three arcs it covers (Battle of Gods, Resurrection of F and Universe 6) took 46 episodes in the 2015 series, and the remake's story is being reconstructed, so expect that number or fewer.
What comes after it?
Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, a separate series adapting the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc from the manga. It was announced in January 2026 and has no release date as of 2 October 2026.
